Art Square in a Fountain

Art Pit team highly believes that cre­at­ive city devel­op­ment and improve­ment of social spaces within the city are very import­ant. One of our aim is to work with aban­doned places and areas and use vari­ous resources to make this spaces lively act­ive and fas­cin­at­ing again. The pro­ject Art Square was launched in Kaunas, Lithuania in 2010. We worked with an idea to use aban­doned foun­tain from Soviet Union time and trans­formed it to social activ­ity pool for inhab­it­ants of the city. Working with design­ers the concept to use the theme of water was developed. In three months time, innov­at­ive sit­ting area was cre­ated within the foun­tain. The design­ers used old baths and water­proof mater­i­als to cre­ate fur­niture and light­ing. This tem­por­ary space worked as a cof­fee shop and art activ­it­ies out­door space dur­ing the sum­mer of 2010. The concept to of fur­niture and design cre­ated by Justina Balčiūnaitė and Jonas Juozas Rudzinskas.
