100% Silk will be trailblazing across Europe headlined by none other than label head and LA Vampires woman of the moment Amanda Brown. The former Pocahaunted member and co-founder of Not Not Fun records has been recording as LA Vampires for some time with what started as a deep water sub sonic boom-bap of tape hiss and distant chilling echoes of mysterious vocals on their first cassingle. With new ground and experimentation much the approach to creating new sounds, LA Vampires have collaborated with a new artist for every release that has followed including projects with Psychic Reality, Zola Jesus, Matrix Metals and fellow label mates Ital and Octo Octa.
The latest of which is a 90’s style minimal house cleaned up effort that instantly brings visions of secret raves, lasers and smoke filled warehouses distilled for the genre hopping hipster and die hard house enthusiast alike, it bristles such vigour and bright synths you almost have to move to the beat whether you like it or not. It also marks a massive step away from any of Amanda Brown’s contemporaries leaving no room for comparisons at all. But don’t be fooled into thinking that this is simple nostalgia or ‘hipster house’ (groan), LA Vampires continues to keep its tradition of a complete evolution of style with every release with LA Vampires by Octo Octa — Freedom 2k (100% Silk) evoking an ethereal hands in the air dance party vibe as well as a cleaner and more crisp alternative to previous DIY, purposefully and brilliantly skewed and distorted releases. You can catch LA Vampires as well as Octo Octa and the rest of the 100% Silk crew on their European tour until mid July so you won’t be getting any records in the post until the non-stop party lands in a city near you, might as well join the fun.
